Start of a New Semester

The summer semester at the Lutherische Theologische Hochschule began April 16th!  We have enjoyed the long break since the end of the winter semester, and we are very grateful for the great quality family time that we have been blessed with.  During the first week of April we took a little to trip to Friedberg a little town about 40km from Oberursel. There was a lovely Burg (Castle) that we got to explore, we were also able to see some American History as this was the location where Elvis Presley was stationed while in Germany. We also took one last big trip before the start of the semester.  We drove west and surprised the boys with a trip to Disneyland Paris!  We spent our first day in Paris seeing the Eiffel Tower, and it is TALL!  Eric, Curtis, and Samuel climbed the bell tower of the Colgone Cathedral (back in February), and that was very high.  But the Eiffel Tower is double the height of the Cathedral!  We didn’t get the chance to go up the Eiffel Tower, but standing at the base of it, the structure is an impressive monument to the ingenuity of mankind.

We had a wonderful time at Disneyland!  The rides were a blast, and the boys loved seeing the characters, especially Tigger and Eeyore (the boys have recently discovered a love for the Winnie the Pooh books), the Mandolorian, and Darth Vader himself.  Although, Darth Vader was a bit scarier than they imagined!  It was a great and fun experience before classes resumed.  And on the way back to Oberursel, we stopped by Belleau Wood, the site of one of the most important battles in Marine Corps history.  Walking through the serene woods where 106 years ago there was some of the fiercest fighting was surreal, and we are glad we got the chance to see such a significant place.

During the break we were also able to explore Saalbugr- a Roman Fortress from the year 90AD-260AD. Walking around the ruined fortress and through the rebuilt replication was truly a wonderful experience full of interesting artifacts and history.

The first week of classes we were thankful to have a visit from Susan’s best friend from college and Curtis’ godmother, Bailey! We loved getting to show her around Oberursel and spend time catching up!

This semester, Eric is taking Latin II, a course on the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, a course on Luther’s Catechisms, and a course on the history of ancient Israel.  We are looking forward to the new semester and what the next few months will bring, and we are especially excited to welcome our new baby in June!

May God bless and keep you!
